Question Type: History, Fashion
Research: Mainly The Costumer's Manifesto, but also some old Sears & Roebuck catalogs we have on file in our library.
Question: This mainly deals with Rosalie and Emmett, and the sort of things they would have been wearing.

Rosalie: As an unmarried woman, would she have been expected to wear her hair up or down? When she speaks of "rolling it up" in Eclipse, is she talking about putting her hair in pin curls (actually rolling it) or does she mean putting it into a bun/chingon/updo? Would she have polished her nails? Shaved her legs and underarms? What sort of makeup would she have worn (I understand, I think, that at the time, face powder, blusher, and some sort of lipstick and eyeshadow were common, but would she have lined her eyes? Was it en vogue then? Worn mascara? Where would she have bought it? At a pharmacy, or in a department store?) I'm not sure if this sort of thing would have varied by region (such as the old joke that Southern girls cake their makeup on, a sin of which I'm guilty), by age, and so forth. Finally, given what we know of Rosalie's family's financial state, how many dresses and such would she have owned? Would she find it shocking to wear jeans (stolen from Edward) and a shirt to hunt in? Or would she realize the practicality? I'm much more familiar with WW2 and post- history, so this 5 years before is really confusing me.

Emmett: I've got most of his clothes down pat, but given his location and his presumed poverty given the Depression, would he have bought his clothing at a store, or would his mother have likely made it for him? How many shirts/pants and such would a man like him have owned? (In my idea of Emmett, he's the son of a farmer, afflicted a bit by the Depression, and is just getting into Bootlegging before he's made into bear kibble. Blame it on my NASCAR/Dukes of Hazzard upbringing.) Would his sensibilities be shocked by the idea of women doing slightly masculine things, or would he be used to this (being raised on a farm and all)?

Thanks in advance folks!

Question type: U.S. culture
How I've researched it: I've tried wikipedia'ing and googling... but all I get are things like 'plan your spring break!' etc.
My Query: Since I don't live in the US, I have no idea about college breaks, when they happen, what they're called, etc.

The fic I'm writing is set after everyone goes away to college, their first break officially and they're coming home to Forks to their families, etc. etc!

I need to know what month/s the break would occur in, how long the break would be for, what you would call the break (IE: summer break, etc.) and for how long they would've been away at college for.

*PHEW* I hope this isn't silly, but the Australian really needs help here! :P
